Wayne Ewing’s newest documentary is about to begin shipping on July 13th, just in time for Hunter S. Thompson’s birthday. Animals, Whores & Dialogue is the sequel – of sorts – to 2003’s classic Breakfast With Hunter.

I was privileged to view an early screening of Animals last month and I was suitably impressed. Animals takes Ewing’s intimate, fascinating perspective on the life of Hunter S. Thompson and brings us yet another (the fourth, in fact) wonderful documentary. As Marty Flynn says, [watching the movie] “was like I was in the Kitchen with them. Not a sycophant in sight. Just trusted friends.”

Indeed, it is a beautiful movie. Only Wayne Ewing – a neighbour and close friend of the late, great Doc – could have created something so personal. Watching Animals is really as close as it gets to being at Owl Farm, watching the man hold court.
