Hi, nice to meet you !
Thanks for reading.
Awake the sleeping Giant!
I cant believe i found this magazine by accident, this can only lead to good things. I personally am inspired by the works of Dr. Thompson and sincerely feel, even though I myself am relatively new to the concept of the beat generation in general, i seem to have found some understanding and common grounds in ways of thinking here. Furthermore I have always toyed with the notion of writing and always found it to be a bit far-fetched considering my background and experience, but this website has actually fueled me with a kind of morbid curiosity i guess, enough to take it for a whirl in the form of essays and such and see how i do anyway. So thanks guys at Beatdom magazine, for providing a place to write about things relevant to people in our generation, which no matter the handle its given, is and by deep definition will always be a kind of “New” Beat Generation.
Hi, T.J.!
we are glad you like our journal.
there is a new issue coming out next week with an excellent story about hst by rory feehan, as a matter of fact…and it is only $9.99…
Love this!
I just found out about this site from an article on Reality Sandwich.
Thank you for the site!
Finding this journal has not only made my day, but possibly my life. Thanks for keeping Beat alive, and I look forward to reading for a VERY long time.
thanks, morgan…we had some last minute delays with the release of the latest issue, but take my word for it, it is worth the wait.
watch the site in the next couple days for photos of the new issue.
you can also pre-order using your credit card or you can send check or money order to the address listed on the site, if you do not like Paypal. we are also on amazon.com and kindle.com but you cannot send them a check, if you want to. we are user friendly and will take all the checks and money orders people care to send…we are not fussy, as long as they do not bounce. if you want to order more than one copy, contact me at hendrick27@gmail.com.
thanks, again!!!
Bukowski was great. The Beats were punks!
well, bill, we don’t know about that…but it is hard to guess which one of them would be able to take buk in a fist fight. i think if it came to that, burroughs would have just shot him on the spot. maybe kerouac could have taken him but i bet huncke would have knifed him with a stiletto as soon as he got in close..but the Beats were not violent or aggressive, as buk was…well neal cassady got violent at times and he was in shape…there you go…i think cassady could have taken bukowski in a punch-up…so i would beg to differ!
Somewhere on this site I see where you wrote that it was said at one time it would impossible for Naked Lunch to be made into a movie. You must be referring to the abortion created by David Cronenberg which hardly deserves the name it bears. Someone should go to court to have that title removed from that cinematic absurdity. Cronenberg’s film titled Naked Lunch has as much to do with Burroughs work as my anus. In fact, my anus is more relevant.
hey david, I just stumbled across your site and magazine. How great it is to find a Scottish (?)man living in China who is the editor of a journal devoted to the Beat Generation! I look forward to examining your site and various interesting books, especially the ones about WSB and the Church of Scientology. I’ve read tons on both — but you are the first one to put them in one book.
