Happy Birthday, Beatdom!

Share

Four years ago this month, Beatdom was born in a Scottish pub. It was a dark, cold night and the Guinness was flowing, alongside some wild ideas and a lot of talk of poetry and changing the world. Beatdom has come a long way since then. In fact, it has literally made it around the world. The first issue was made in Scotland, the second in America, and subsequent issues have come from Korea and China.

It’s been a hell of a journey.

Last month we announced the creation of Beatdom Books. Or rather, we morphed from literary journal into literary publisher. BB is currently working on two novels to be released in the coming months. Watch this space…

To celebrate both the birth of Beatdom and the creation of Beatdom Books, Jerry Aronson has given us four previously unpublished photos to use on our lovely little website. These photos were taken by him, and show Allen Ginsberg with various Beat and counterculture icons.

We will be releasing these photos throughout May, so keep your eyes peeled. The first features Ginsberg with William S. Burroughs:

Jerry Aronson is the filmmaker behind the wonderful documentary, The Life and Times of Allen Ginsberg, which has been released as a special 2-disc DVD set. Learn more at his website: http://www.allenginsbergmovie.com/

Thanks, Mohd. I’ll try and visit next time I’m there. I really enjoyed Kuala Lumpur but I still need to see the rest of the country, so I’ll be back one day soon.
